Munier Chy, Zakaria Memorial Awards ceremony today

‘Munier Chowdhury Award’ and ‘Mohammad Zakaria Memorial Award’ ceremony will be held today, marking the 96th birth anniversary of educationist, playwright and intellectual Munier Chowdhury. Organised by theatre troupe Theatre, the award ceremony will be held at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 6:30pm.  

Four veteran and young theatre personalities will be honoured with the awards for 2020 and 2021, said a press release.

Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Nurul Huda will grace the occasion as the chief guest with ‘Theatre’ president Ferdousi Mazumder in the chair.

In the second part of the programme, the students of Bengal Parampara Sangeetalay will perform instrumental music.

Sponsored by IFIC Bank, the recipient of Munier Chowdhury Award will also receive TK 50,000, while the winner of Mohammad Zakaria Award will receive TK 25,000.

Munier Chowdhury Award was introduced in 1989. The recipients of the award are Mohammad Zakaria, Amalendu Biswas (Posthumus), Abdullah Al-Mamun, Nagorik Natya Somproday, Syed Jamil Ahmed, Ramendu Majumdar, Muktodhara, Sayeed Ahmed, Ferdousi Majumdar, Syed Shamsul Haq, Ataur Rahman, Mamunur Rashid, NasiruddinYousuff, Selim Al-Deen, Aly Zaker, Nikhil Sen, Asaduzzaman Noor, Zia Haidar, Moloy Bhowmick, Partho Protim Majumdar, Prof. Abdus Selim, Manoj Mitra, Aranyak Natto Dol, Liaquat Ali Lucky, Mrittika Chakma, M. Hamid, Keramat Mowla, Dr. Israfeel Shaheen, Dr. Devjit Bandyopadhyay and Prof. Shafi Ahmed.

Mohammad Zakaria Memorial Award was incepted in 1997. The recipients of the award are Ahmed Iqbal Haidar, Mannan Heera, Shimul Yousuff, Thandu Raihan, Khaled Khan, Debaprosad Debnath, Nasirul Huq Khokon, Masum Reza, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Fayez Jahir, Zaglul Alam, Shuvasish Sinha, Babul Biswas, Ashim Das, Theatrewala, Sudip Chakraborty, Samina Lutfa Nitra, Dr. Irin Parveen Lopa, Akhtaruzzaman, Avijit Sengupta, Ruma Modok, Pantho Shahriar and Shishir Rahman.
