Three students killed in Chandpur road crash

Three college students were killed and two others injured after a passenger bus ran over a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Biswaroad area under Kachua upazila of Chandpur on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Urmi Majumder, 24, and Md Rifat, 24, a postgraduate student of Cumilla Victoria College, and Saddam, 22, an honours student of Chandpur Government College.

According to locals, a Dhaka-bound bus of BRTC Paribahan hit the auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in Koriya area at around 8:30am, leaving three passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and two others critically injured.

The injured auto-rickshaw driver and another passenger were taken to Kachua Upazila Health Complex.

Kachua Police Station officer in-charge Md Mohiuddin said police recovered the bodies from the spot.

Police seized the bus but its driver and helper managed to flee the scene.

Meanwhile, a septuagenarian was killed in another road accident in Bayezid area of Chattogram.

The deceased was identified as Faruk Ahmed, 70, of Jalalabad area in the city, reports our correspondent.

Sources said that the accident occurred when a three-wheeler (Tomtom) hit Faruk in Tannery Battal area under Bayezid Police Station at around 9:00am.

The accident left him injured critically.

He was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where he breathed his last at around 12:00pm, said Inspector (investigation) Sadekur Rahman of Panchlaish Police Station.
