Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of e-commerce site Pavel Hossain and his three associates were arrested for duping people.

A team of RAB-4 arrested them from Banasree in the capital on Wednesday and Thursday, said RAB-4 Commanding Officer (CO) Md Mozammel Haque.

Other arrestees are: Saidul Islam, 40, Abdullah Al Hasam, 25 and Farzana Akhter Meem, 21.

A foreign pistol, one magazine, two bullets and various grocery items were recovered from their office and warehouse.

The authorities of the e-commerce platform defrauded the customers of a big amount of money. The exact figure of the money they embezzled could not be known, but Tk40 million was transacted through four bank accounts of Pavel in the last two years, said the officer.

Tk15,00,000 remained deposited in the accounts. Besides, Pavel opened 27 business entities having no existence, he said.

The accused circulated advertisements on their facebook page offering sale of commodities at lower prices, he also said.

The customers had to pay the full amount of prices for giving order to buy any commodity.

After getting the money, the authorities of the online shop delivered substandard things or half commodities or did not deliver at all.

If any customer contacted them for their products or money back, they would be tortured in a torture cell of their office.

According to the officer, Pavel hailing from Gopalganj was arrested by RAB with a firearm in Tejgaon in 2009 when he was a student of a college.  Later, he passed honours in Computer Science from a private university in the capital. The accused opened their website in 2019.

A case was filed against him with Uttara West Police Station in May 2021 and he was arrested later.
