Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) will not issue any licence for Bluetooth-enabled motorcycles unless importers and manufacturers receive approval from Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

BRTA sent a letter to assemblers and importers of such motorcycles on November 21 in this connection.

They have to take permission from BTRC to sell motorcycles with Bluetooth or wireless connectivity, read the letter signed by Sitangshu Shekhar Biswas, Director Engineering at BRTA.

BRTA mentioned that no company can connect wireless machine to a motorcycle without permission in accordance with the Telecommunication Act-2001.

Motorcycle manufactures install innovative technologies like ABS, fuel injection and Bluetooth device for improving services. Such tech-enabled services help riders to know mileage, riding history, average speed and parking history. Customers may face harassment if companies do not receive approval from BTRC to install wireless technology like Bluetooth, internet of things (IoT) and vehicle tracking system (VTS).
