Lal Teer among top 10 in Access to Seeds Index

Bangladeshi seed producer Lal Teer Seed Ltd became one of the top 10 in the Access to Seeds Index 2021.

The was assessed on six criteria – capacity building, marketing and sales, seed production, research and development, genetic resource and intellectual property management, good governance and strategy.

Lal Teer Seed Ltd scored 59.2 out of 100 based on the six indicators.

The index published by the United Nations Foundation and the World Benchmarking Alliance showed Lal Teer Seed Ltd securing the seventh position among the top 10 companies in its South and Southeast Asian regional list.

The index was also published for two other regions – Western and Central Africa and Eastern and Southern Africa.

The regionally prepared list features two companies from Bangladesh in the top 31 countries.

After a two-year interval, the index was published this year.

Lal Teer Seed Ltd managing director Mahbub Anam said, “This position of Lal Teer Seed as a Bangladeshi company in the seed index is definitely a source of pride.”

“It is a recognition of the contribution Lal Teer has made to the development of the country’s seed industry over the past few decades,” he added. Lal Teer Seed has a reputation in Bangladesh as a proponent of vegetable seeds.

It has been conducting production and marketing activities of paddy seeds since 2010.
