Man held with 4 kg gold bars at Ctg airport

CHATTOGRAM: Customs officials detained an air passenger with 26 gold bars weighing around 4 kilograms at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport in the city on Monday.

The arrestee was identified as Md Sohel, 28, of Lohagara upazila in the district.

Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (DCII) Deputy Director (DD) Md Shakil Khandaker said Sohel arrived at the airport on a flight from Dubai at around 8:00am.

Acting on information from the National Security Intelligence (NSI), officials of the DCII challenged Sohel near the luggage-belt.   Later, 26 gold bars, six gold plates and some ornaments were found in two packets inside a polythene bag in his hand, said the DD.

Besides, four i-phones and an i-pad were seized from him.
