The parents of a 13-year-old boy who has long been suffering from multiple complications, including serious brain damage, has pleaded for financial assistance for the treatment of their ill-fated son.

Sharif Rifatuzzaman, who hails from Durgapur, Teljuri under Boalmari upazila in Faridpur, is affected by hydrocephalus in which fluid from the brain and spinal cord accumulates in the brain and gradually interferes with the function of the brain.

Due to slow enlargement and subsequent pressure on his bran’s membrane, Rifat is gradually losing control over his organs. He is already unable to control his urination and defecation.

Due to the birth defect of his brain, Rifat, unable to attend school, has been suffering from partial visual impairment since the age of only 11 months. He is also physically impaired due to shortened blood vessels or veins in his right foot.

Rifat’s parents, Sharif Arifuzzaman, an assistant shipmaster, and Shahanaz Yasmin intend to travel to southern India where such highly complicated brain surgery is available. But the treatment involves a huge amount of money and it is quite impossible for them to bear the cost.

Finding no other alternatives, Rifat’s parents have appealed for financial help to cover the expenses of Rifat’s surgery.

Contributions can be sent to Sharif Arifuzzaman, Account No. 106.103.231968, Dutch Bangla Bank Limited.
