Call for curbing rampant use of antibiotics

Health experts at a programme have underscored the importance of formulating a specific policy and its implementation to control the indiscriminate use of antibiotics in the country.

They were addressing a roundtable discussion titled ‘Antimicrobial resistance problem; Solution and Responsibility’ organised by the daily Kaler Kantho, in association with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Disease Control unit of DGHS, USAID and CDC, at Kaler Kantho auditorium in the capital’s  Bashundhara Residential Area on Tuesday.

The speakers also urged the authorities concerned to stop selling of antibiotics without prescription.

Kaler Kantho Editor Shahed Muhammad moderated the programme.

Director General of Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) Major General Md Mahbubur Rahman and Additional Director General (administration) of the DGHS Professor Dr Ahmedul Kabir were also present, among others.
