No nighttime flights at HSIA for 3 months

Flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) will remain suspended from 12:00 am to 8:00 am every day from 11 March to 10 June 2022 due to renovation work.

HSIA authorities issued a notice (notice to airman) in this regard on Monday.

According to the notice, the runway will be closed at this time due to construction of high speed taxiway.

The notice has already been distributed among the domestic and foreign airlines. However, several airline authorities have expressed their concerns over the issue.

Airlines say there are many flights between 12:00am and 8:00am. It is not logical to keep the runway closed for three months at this time.

If the flight pressure increases at other times of the day, HSIA authorities will surely struggle as they do not have the necessary infrastructures and equipments to handle such situation. This will also increase the suffering of passengers, they said.

An airline official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there had been some changes in the flight operation at HSIA after 1:00 am due to the arrival of winter. The situation has been deteriorated and passengers and airlines are already been facing severe problems.

Earlier this month, airport authorities announced that night flights at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport would be closed each day for eight hours (from 12 am to 8 am) three months from December 10 this year to March 10, 2022 for renovations.
