7 more die, 199 cases detected

The country recorded an unexpected number of seven deaths and 199 cases from coronavirus infections on Sunday, as the figure of deaths was zero on the previous day.

Earlier, zero death and 178 infection cases were reported on Saturday, 7 death and 253 infection cases were reported on Friday and 5 deaths and 244 infection cases were reported on Thursday.

The daily corona infection rate has remained below 2 percent for the last few weeks. Some 1.16 percent infection rate was reported on Sunday, 1.18 percent infection rate was reported on Saturday, 1.40 percent on Friday, 1.25 percent on Thursday, 1.35 percent on Wednesday and 1.03 percent on Tuesday.

For the 48 consecutive days, the country reported daily positivity rate below three percent. The infection rate was below four percent for 55 days in a row and below five percent for the last 62 consecutive days.

The number of daily cases was reported below 500 for the last 39 days in a row.

The number of total infections has risen to 15,74,088 with the overall positivity rate 14.68%. Some 17,135 samples were tested in the last 24 hours to detect the infection cases.

The national death toll has increased to 27,953 with a case fatality rate of 1.78 percent. The number of death remains below 10 for the last 35 consecutive days.

At the same time, the recovery rate continued to improve in the country reaching 97.72 percent with the recuperation of a good number of Covid-19 patients every day.

Some 192 more Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning, raising the total number of recoveries to 15,38,198.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.

The DGHS has urged the countrymen to receive the vaccine and maintain health guidelines to keep the declining trend of infection.
