DU set to celebrate centenary

Dhaka University (DU) is set to celebrate the centenary of the university and the golden jubilee of the country's independence which will begin on December 1.

The university Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman spoke on the overall preparation of the celebrations at a 'Meet the Press' held at Abdul Matin Virtual Classroom of the university on Saturday.

DU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Muhammad Samad and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal were present among others.

At the press conference, Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman said the university has been taking and implementing various initiatives to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, build a university suitable for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and create skilled human resources.

He also discussed various initiatives undertaken by the university on the occasion of its centenary and golden jubilee of independence which include: publications, arranging 6 international seminars, special research projects, master plan, centenary monument, health insurance, re-introduction of Bangabandhu Overseas Scholarship, introduction of Bangabandhu PhD scholarship, establishment of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Research Institute for Peace and Liberty, Bangabandhu Gold Medal, establishment of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Centre for Gender and Development Studies, automation of education and administrative system, establishment of Innovation and Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) Center.
