7 more die, 253 cases detected

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) recorded seven deaths and 253 cases from coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

The daily corona infection rate has remained below two percent for the last few weeks. Some 1.40 percent infection rate was reported on Friday. It was 1.25 percent on Thursday, 1.35 percent on Wednesday, 1.03 percent on Tuesday, 1.32 percent on Monday and 1.14 percent on Sunday.

For the 46 consecutive days, the country reported daily positivity rate below three percent. The infection rate was below four percent for 53 days in a row and below five percent for the last 60 consecutive days. The number of daily cases was reported below 500 for the last 37 days in a row.

The number of total infections has risen to 15,73,711 with the overall positivity rate 14.72 percent. Some 18,124 samples were tested in the last 24 hours to detect the infection cases.

The national death toll has increased to 27,946 with a case fatality rate of 1.78 percent. The number of death remains below 10 for the last 33 consecutive days.

At the same time, the recovery rate continued to improve in the country reaching 97.72 percent with the recuperation of a good number of Covid-19 patients every day.

Some 298 more Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, raising the total number of recoveries to 15,37,816.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.

The DGHS has urged the countrymen to receive the vaccine and maintain health guidelines to keep the declining trend of infection.
