6 killed as bus hits auto-rickshaw in Gaibandha

At least six people were killed and two others injured when a passenger bus hit an auto-rickshaw in Gaibandha on Friday.

All the victims were the passengers of the auto-rickshaw.

The deceased were identified as Tuku Amin, driver of the auto-rickshaw, and passengers: Shohag Mia, Ashraf Mia, Ripon Mia, Sujan Mali, and Khokon Chandra.

The accident took place on Dhaka-Rangpur highway at Kalitala area under Gobindaganj upazila of the district.

The bus collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw while overtaking another vehicle on the highway in the morning, said Gobindaganj Highway Police Station OC Khairul Islam.

Three people died on the spot when a passenger bus of Hanif Paribahan hit the auto rickshaw, witnesses said.

Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence soon arrived at the scene. Five persons injured in the accident were sent to the Upazila Health Complex where three succumbed to injuries, said Arif Anwar, in-charge of Gobindaganj Upazila office of Fire Service and Civil Defence department.

In another incident at Bhuapur upazila of Tangail district, a transport businessman named Saiful Islam (28), son of late Korban Ali of Ghatandi village, was killed when another motorcycle hit his motorcycle on Friday.

Saiful Islam was going to attend the janaza of one of his relatives in Ghatail upazila, Azharul Islam, a neighbor of the deceased, said.

The accident took place when Saiful was refueling his motorcycle at Bhuapur Filling Station. During the time, another motorcycle hit his motorcycle and he fell on the road. He sustained head injuries on the spot. He was taken to Tangail General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Bhuapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Wahab confirmed the news of the accident.
