Man, minor son found dead

Police recovered the bodies of an office assistant of Directorate General of Drug Administration’s Netrokona office and his two-year-old son from their residence in Netrokona on Thursday.

The deceased were named as Abdul Kaium Sardar, 32, and his son Ahnab Shakil.

Police could not confirm whether the father killed his son and then committed suicide or anything else. Salma Khatun, 21, wife of Kaium, was being held in police custody for interrogation, said Khandaker Shaker Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Netrokona Model Police Station.

Akbar Ali Munshi, superintendent of police of the district, said that on receiving information, police recovered the bodies from the fourth floor of the five-storey building in Nagra of the district town around 11:00 am.

He said that they sent the bodies to Netrokona Sadar Model Hospital for autopsy. “We’ve found two packets of foods bought from a restaurant and an empty bottle of juice in the kitchen of their flat. We’ve collected those for laboratory tests.

“We are investigating taking all possible reasons for the deaths into consideration. DNA test on the father and the son will be carried out. Two mobile phones and footage of CCTV of the residence were also seized,” he said.   The Crime Scene Units of Criminal Investigation Department and Police Bureau of Investigation visited the spot and gathered evidence, he added.

Before Salma was taken to the police station, she told journalists that she and her husband along with their son went to bed after having dinner on Wednesday.

“I got up at about 5:00 am on Thursday and found my husband and son hanging from a ceiling fan. Then I cut the rope and put them down. Later, I informed the neighbours of the matter,” said Salma.
