CHATTOGRAM: Chittagong University (CU) is going to celebrate its 56th founding anniversary tomorrow.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud is expected to be present as the chief guest.

CU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr Shireen Akhter will inaugurate the programmes on the university Central Shaheed Minar premises at 10:00am.

Later, teachers and students will bring out a procession from there. The VC Professor Shireen disclosed these at a press conference at S Rahman Hall of Chattogram Press Club on Tuesday.

Arts and Humanities faculty Dean Professor Dr Mohibul Aziz will present a keynote-paper focusing on the university’s history, heritages, traditions and achievements, said the VC.

A colorful cultural function will be held after the discussion, she added.

The university authority will also provide special meals for the students on the occasion.

CU Pro-VC Professor Dr Benu Kumar Dey, Engineering faculty Dean Professor Rashid Mostafa, Registrar SM Manirul Hasan, CU Alumni Association General Secretary Mahbubul Alam and Chattogram Press Club General Secretary Chowdhury Farid were present at the press conference among others.

CU was established on November 18 in 1966 with four departments, seven teachers and 200 students.

At present, it has nine faculties, 48 departments and six institutes where around 900 teachers are assigned for 28,000 students.
