CHATTOGRAM: The 14th version of real estate and housing fair organised by Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) begins in the port city tomorrow (Thursday).

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid will inaugurate the four-day fair titled “REHAB Chattogram Fair-2021” at hotel ‘Radisson Blu Chittagong Bay View’ on Thursday, said the organisers at a press conference at Chattogram Club on Tuesday.

REHAB Vice-President and Chattogram Regional Committee Chairman Abdul Kauiam Chowdhury read out a written statement at the conference where Vice President-1 Kamal Mahmud, REHAB Director and Chattogram Co-Chairman (1) Mohammad Didarul Hoque Chowdhury and Co-Chairman (1) Mahbub Sobhan Jalal Tanvir were also present.

Kauiam in his written statement said as it is not possible by the government to meet the huge demand for accommodation with limited resources, REHAB with its 908 members is working relentlessly.

The real estate sector has a contribution of 15 percent to the economic growth of the country. It is also helping some two crore people dependent on 40 lakh workers of the sector, he said.

But, the sector is now going through some crises centring problems in the policy making, Kauiam said.

However, the crises are being overcome gradually with different initiatives taken by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said the Chattogram chairman.

The initiative includes home loan for government service-holders at five per cent interest rate and reduction of registration free by two more per cent, he said.

“However, we are also trying to reduce the registration fee to four more per cent,” said Kauiam.

He informed that Bangladesh Bank also issued a gazette for giving highest Tk 2 crore against the previous 1.20 crore for buying flat.

But, having no opportunity for long-term loan and the high interest rate of bank loan for common people are the main barriers in this sector, he observed.

The chairman urged the government to bring the registration fee to six to seven percent for expansion of this sector and industrialisation in the country further.

The organisers said a total of 46 firms will take part in 71 stalls in the fair this year. The firms include 14 companies of building materials and financial organisations.

There are four gold sponsors and 15 co-sponsors in the fair that will remain open for the visitors from 10:00am to 9:00pm every day.

Ticket price has been fixed at Tk 50 for single entry and Tk 100 for multiple entries.
