Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said that people all over the country, except for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, are happy with the government.

“Corrupt persons and wrongdoers, not the people, are gripped by fear. The people are happy except the Bangladesh Nationalist Party,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said this while addressing a virtual press briefing from his official residence on the parliament premises in the capital.

The AL spokesperson also accused the BNP of being the father of dangerous activities like arson and acts of violence.

“It is BNP, not the Awami League, is carrying out dangerous activities throughout the country. When will their evil politics end?”

“BNP is carrying out politics of destruction inherited from their predecessors. Carrying out killing, unleashing terrorism and hatching conspiracies are inherent in BNP.”

The minister further said that the BNP masterminded acts of violence committed by religious bigot Hefazat-e-Islam.

“The BNP was involved in patronising communal evil forces and carrying out destructive acts,” he said.

Talking about the ongoing union parishad polls, Quader alleged that BNP is applying double standards.

“Once BNP announced that they would not take part in the elections, but now they said there is no problem if they (party leaders) are independent candidates,” he said.

Quader said BNP always try to make any good deed of the government controversial. The party also takes part in the election to throw the polls into question, he said.

He claimed that the BNP has already been exposed and people of the country have lost their confidence in them.

“People have been hearing about the movement of BNP for more than a decade, but people have not seen the movement anymore,” Quader said.
