Barishal Division put Dhaka Metro under pressure on the opening day of the ongoing National Cricket League fifth-round match after Barishal bowlers caused havoc with the ball on Sunday.

At Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground, less-known off-spinner Islamul Ahsan and left-arm spinner Monir Hossain tore through Dhaka Metro’s batting order by sharing seven wickets between them as Barishal bowled out Rangpur’s first innings for a paltry 87 runs after Dhaka opted to bat first.

At the close, Barishal put on 136 runs for two wickets with a lead of 49 runs, leaving Dhaka facing an uphill task to save the match with three days still to go.

Skipper Fazle Mahmud remained unbeaten on 65 while Salman Hossain was not out on 47. Opener and wicketkeeper Zahiduzzaman’s 40 was the only Dhaka’s occupation of sustained influence but the others even failed to reach double-digit.

Islamul finished with four wickets for 19 runs while his spin partner Monir Hossain bagged three wickets for 15.

Meanwhile, Chattogram young off-spinner Nayeem Hasan scalped five wickets for 42 runs to skittle out Rajshahi Division for 194 of the Tier-2 game at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
