Confident Bangladesh are eyeing to play the final of the ongoing Four Nations Invitational Tournament after their historical 2-1 goals victory against the tough opponents Maldives after 18 years in Colombo on Saturday.

The win sent Bangladesh at the top of the points table with 4 points, but they still need one more point from their last match against the hosts Sri Lanka on Tuesday to enter into the final of the tournament. Seychelles have the same 4 points and goal difference (+1), but they are placed second due to scoring fewer goals. The Maldives and Sri Lanka have one point each.

“We aim to enter into the final of the tournament with a win over Sri Lanka.  If we lose, we have to depend on other equations. But we don’t want to make it complicated,” Bangladesh team manager Satyajit Das Rupu told the media on Sunday.

“We lost to the Maldives in the SAFF Championship a few days ago; it was a kind of revenge against the island nation. Players are excited and confident enough, but we warned them not to be over-excited or confident because we still have a tough game against the home team Sri Lanka next,” he said after the team’s recovery and swimming sessions.
