Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Sunday said the government is working to increase food stocks and ensure a fair price of paddy to build a hunger-free Bangladesh.
The minister made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Rice Silo and Premix Kernel Factory on Central Storage Depot (CSD) campus in Narayanganj.
“Food security has already been ensured. Now, one of the goals of the government is to provide nutritious food for the consumers. Narayanganj Rice Silo and Premix Kernel Factory will play an important role in achieving this goal,” said the minister.
“Food warehouses across the country are being digitised. As a result, it will be possible to easily know which product is entering and leaving a warehouse through the app,” he said.
Speaking as special guest, Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi said, “Farmers now get a fair price as the government buys paddy directly from them. The more silos will be built in the country, the more farmers will benefit.”
Narayanganj-4 MP Shamim Osman and Food Ministry Secretary Dr Mosammat Nazmanara Khanum and Director General of the Food Department Sheikh Mujibur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
The capacity of the Narayanganj rice silo will be 48,000 metric tonnes. There are a total of 12 silo bins with a capacity of 4000 metric tonnes each.
The kernels will be fortified with essential micronutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, Iron (Ferric Pyrophosphate) and Zinc (Zinc Oxide).
As a result, supply of good quality and nutritious rice will be ensured in various government-run social security programmes.
