Italy is interested to invest in setting up organic compost fertiliser and a power plant in Bangladesh that will use wastes of leather industry as raw materials.

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Chairman Md Mostaq Hasan said this after a meeting with Italian envoy in Dhaka.

Italian ambassador to Bangladesh Enrico Nunziata made a courtesy call to BSCIC chairman at the latter’s office in Dhaka on Sunday.

Bangladesh and Italy will work together to bring Italian investment into the sector.

“Italian ambassador has sought assurance of supply of leather industry wastes for the plants,” said BSCIC chairman.

In this regard, he informed the envoy that the government of Bangladesh has already taken a master plan to establish 100 environment-friendly industrial parks by 2041.

BSCIC chairman invited Italian investment at those environment- friendly proposed industrial parks.

Additional Secretary (BSCIC) Kazi Shakawat Hossain and other senior officials concerned were also present during the meet.
