Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 7.8 lakh Yaba pills from near Chhera Dwip, an uninhabited smaller island off Saint Martin’s, at River Naf in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday.

Media Officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters Lieutenant Khandaker Munif  Taki, said “Acting on a tip-off, a coast guard team led by Station Commander of Teknaf Lt Commander M Naeem-ul-Haq were patrolling the sea along Chhera Island.”

“At one stage, they signalled a boat to stop around 6:30pm. Sensing the presence of the team Coast Guard, they quickly changed direction and began to flee towards the Myanmar border.” “At that time, the smugglers threw four brown plastic bags from the boat into the sea and fled towards the Myanmar border. Later, the coast guard members seized the sacks and found 7.8 lakh Yaba tablets.”
