5 more die, 221 cases detected

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) recorded five more deaths and 221 cases of infections during the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

The country’s coronavirus situation is still stable as the number of daily infection cases has remained below 500 for the 30 consecutive days.

The daily coronavirus infection rate has remained below two percent for the last few weeks. Some 1.28 percent infection rate was reported on Friday, 1.21 percent on Thursday, 1.31 percent on Wednesday, 1.18 percent on Tuesday, 1.28 percent on Monday, 1.17 percent on Sunday and 1.18 percent on Saturday.

For the 39 consecutive days the country reported daily positivity rate below three percent. The infection rate was below four percent for 46 days in a row and below five percent for the last 53 consecutive days.

The number of daily cases was reported below 500 for the last 30 days in a row. The number of total infections has risen to 15,72,127 with the overall positivity rate 14.88 percent. Some 17,231 samples were tested in the last 24 hours to detect the infection cases.

The national death toll has increased to 27,912 with a case fatality rate of 1.78 percent. The number of death remains below 10 for the last 26 consecutive days.

At the same time, the recovery rate continued to improve in the country reaching 97.71 percent with the recuperation of a good number of Covid-19 patients every day.

Some 219 more Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, raising the total number of recoveries to 15,36,11.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
