Infant burnt alive, 5 hurt in Ctg fire

CHATTOGRAM: An infant was burnt to death while five others were injured in a devastating fire at Hathazari upazila in the district on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as five-month-old Md Rakib while the injured were Senwara, 80, Lucky, 49, Anwara, 35, Brishty, 18, and Manik, 15, of Hathazari municipality area.

Hathazari Fire Station Officer Md Shahjahan said that fire broke out at six dwelling houses in Rangi Para under the municipality at around 4:00am, leaving six residents of the houses critically injured.

They were rushed to the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where on-duty doctors declared Rakib dead, he said.

On receiving information, two fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire at around 6:00am, said the officer.

The damages caused by the fire were estimated at Tk 4 lakh, he said adding that the reason behind the fire could not be ascertained immediately.

CMCH Burn Unit Head Dr Rafiq Uddin Ahmed said that the injured are undergoing treatment with 10 percent to 75 percent burn injuries.
