State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain on Wednesday said that the recruitment test for 32,700 primary school assistant teachers will be held by December this year.

The recruitment will help end the shortage of teachers at the government primary schools across the country and ease the pressure on existing teachers, he said.

He came up with the remarks at a discussion with the district primary education officials in Munshiganj’s Serajdikhan upazila urging the education officers to work diligently.

On October 19, 2019, the government had issued a circular on holding the test to recruit more than 32,000 primary school assistant teachers. But the test was not held as the schools were closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

More than 1.35 million candidates had registered to take the recruitment test.

The state minister said that primary education is the basic foundation of education. “Primary education plays the most important role in the development of student thinking, ethics and values.”

Therefore, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared primary education compulsory as a step towards building the newly independent country as ‘Sonar Bangla’, he added.

Md Zakir Hossain also urged education officers to work sincerely in order to develop a knowledge-based society.
