Bus owners have decided to stop seating and gate-lock services in the local buses plying the streets of Dhaka to stop charging extra fare from the passengers. The decision will be implemented within the next three days.

There will be inspection teams to ensure the implementation of the decision, said Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Associa-tion Secretary General Khandaker Enayet Ullah at a press conference on Wednesday.

Passengers suffer a lot as there are no regulations in the seating service. So there will be no seating or gate-lock service in the local buses, he said.

Eleven such teams will be formed. The teams will consist of bus owners and transport workers.

The teams will monitor the activities of the buses with the help of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) and Dhaka Metropolitan Police, he added. Tags will be pasted on CNG-run and diesel-run buses within three days, he also said adding that CNG-run buses are not supposed to charge the increased fare.

Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association and Bangladesh Road Transport Worker's Federation jointly organised the press conference over the hike of bus fare at the association's Dhaka office.

A letter was sent to authorities concerned in and outside Dhaka so that no bus can charge extra fare from commuters, Khandaker Enayet Ullah added.
