Six sent to jail for carrying chemical mixed shrimp

KHULNA: A mobile court here on Wednesday sentenced six people to one-month imprisonment for carrying chemical mixed shrimp.

The court also freed a youth as his involvement was not found, said a Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) press release issued on Wednesday by BCG officer Lieutenant Commander Md Hasanuz-zaman of Bangladesh Navy.

A team of the BGB Rupsha Station last night conducted drive in the toll plaza area on the Khanjahan Ali Bridge and arrested three drivers, three helpers and another employee along with three trucks for carrying chemical mixed 4,020 shrimp.

“All chemical mixed shrimp has been pelted into the Rupsha river in presence of executive magistrate and Rupsha upazila fisheries officer,” the press release said, adding that three trucks were handed over to Rupsha Police Station for taking legal action.
