UP member candidate shot in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR: A Union parishad (UP) member candidate was shot in Sadar upazila of the district on Monday night.

Bullet-injured Rezaur Rahman, a member candidate for Ward No. 3 of PM Khali union parishad in Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila.

Rezaur was discussing the election with 10-12 people outside a tea stall at Bottoli Station in the Totok Khali area of PM Khali union, when the assailants arrived on the scene riding a motorcycle and left after opening fire at him, said police.

Although Rezaur blamed the shooting on a rival candidate, he did not specify who the person was.

Rezaur Rahman was admitted to the state-run Sadar Hospital in the district town, said Sadar upazila Police Station OC Sheikh Monir Ul Gias.

“Additional forces have been deployed in the area following the attack,” he added.
