‘Grass-roots leaders, activists strength of AL’

KHULNA: Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim on Saturday said all grassroots leaders and activists symbolize the power and trust of Awami League, reports BSS.

“Awami League always was based on its countrywide grassroots leaders and activists and they did not betray before and after the liberation of Bangladesh. Only vested quarters and hybrid opportunists and intruders left the party when AL passed hard days,” he said at the triennial conference of Bangladesh Awami Swechchhasebak League (BASL) in the city’s Shaheed Hadis Park.

Chaired by Mir Barkat Ali, convener of conference preparation committee, Nirmal Ranjan Guha, central president of BASL, inaugurated the conference by releasing pigeons and festoons.

Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, central organizing secretary of AL S M Kamal Hossain, Parliament members Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel, Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tanmoy, advocate Amirul Alam Milon, Akteruzzaman Babu, advocate Gloria Jharna Sarker, Khulna Zila Parishad Chairman Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, Director of Bangladesh Cricket Board Sheikh Sohel, AL city unit General Secretary MDA Babul Rana and AL District Unit General Secretary advocate Sujit Adhikari, BASL General Secretary A K M Afzalur Rahman, Joint Secretary General Khairul Hasan Zwel and Organizing Secretary Abdullah Al Syem, among others, spoke.

Earlier, the leaders and workers of the organisation paid tributes to the Father of the Nation by placing wreaths at his portrait the national and party flag was hoisted in front of Shaheed Minar.

The BASL was founded on July 26 in 1994 as an AL’s associate body as per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
