BNP leaders have met Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Shafiqul Islam and sought cooperation to hold their ‘peaceful’ political programmes.

The delegation of BNP leaders comprising its Dhaka north city unit convener Amanullah Aman, Dhaka south city unit convener Abdus Salam and publicity secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie met the DMP commissioner at his office in the capital on Tuesday noon.

After the meeting, Amanullah Aman said they discussed some recent incidents including arrest of around 20-25 of the party men from the house of the party leader Shumon who was alleged victim to forced disappearance.

“BNP wants to hold political programmes in the capital peacefully. We have sought cooperation from the DMP commissioner in this regard. He assured us of cooperation,” he said.

Mentioning that they will hold programme in every ward of the Dhaka north and south city units from November 9, Aman said they have sent letter to the police seeking cooperation for the programme.

Abdus Salam said they also sought permission for holding discussion on November 7 in the capital.

“The two city units of BNP will jointly hold programme marking death anniversary of Sadeque Hossain Khoka on November 5. He (DMP commissioner) said there will be no problem in this regard,” he added.
