Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two members of a human-trafficking gang from the capital’s Banani area early Sunday.

A team of RAB-1 captured the duo -- Sujon Shikder, 21, and Ramzan Molla, 26, -- from Karail slum at around 2:00am.

Of them, Sujon, who is the ringleader of the racket, used to traffic a number of women, including his wife out of three, to a neighbouring country, said Lt Col Abdullah Al-Momen, also commanding officer (CO) of the elite force unit, at a press briefing in the city.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees said that they with their accomplices had been trafficking young girls to a neighbouring country for a long period of time, he said.

They targeted poor but beautiful girls and developed ‘love’ affairs with them, he said.

At one stage, they spent secret moments with the girls and videoed the scenes. At one stage, the members of the cycle offered the girls good jobs in the neighbouring country.

“If anybody disagreed, she was blackmailed by showing her objectionable photos and videos. By these ways, they have trafficked young girls to the neighbouring country for sex work,” he said.

The officer revealed that Ramzan recently married a girl concealing his first marriage while Sujon managed a girl to marry.

The duo took Tk 28,000 from a man of the neighbouring country to hand over the two women to a foreigner, Al-Momen said.

Next legal of action is underway against the arrestees.
