Bangladesh U-23 suffer big defeat in AFC qualifiers

Popular News

Bangladesh U-23 team conceded a humiliating 0-6 goals defeat against hosts Uzbekistan in their second Group D match of the ongoing AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers at Pakhtakor Stadium, Tashkent on Saturday.

Uzbek captain Ulugbek scored twice in the 12th and 16th minutes while defenders Eldorbek, Asliddin, midfielder Fayzullaev and substitute forward Alisher added one each in the 15th, 26th, 63rd and 87th minutes respectively to hand the visitors a big defeat.

However, the result will make no impact on the points table as Uzbekistan had already qualified for the main phase of the competition as the host nation.

Bangladesh’s newcomer expat Yousuf Zulqurnain made his debut in the match as the forward started the match in the place of another forward Enamul Islam Gazi.

Meanwhile, Kuwait U-23 team beat Saudi Arabia by 2-1 goals in their second match on the same day and confirmed their place in the main event of the Asian Cup as group champions with two consecutive victories.

Bangladesh still have a chance to secure a place in the main event as the best four runner-up teams will progress to the main event.

The last match between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, which is also a place-decider, will take place on Tuesday.
