8 more die, 166 cases detected

Eight more people died of coronavirus infections and 166 cases were detected in the country during the last 24 hours till Saturday morning.

The country’s coronavirus situation remains stable still as the daily infection rate has been reported 1.25 percent in the last 24 hours. The infection rate is the lowest since March 30 last year. On March 30, 2020, the daily infection rate was 0.65 percent. According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the country has reported eight more deaths and the number of infections from coronavirus also dropped to 166 in last 24 hours till 8am on Saturday.

The number of single-day infections is also the lowest since April 13 last year. Around 182 cases were recorded on the day.

Meanwhile, 181 patients recovered across the country. The Covid-19 death toll now stands at 27,862, the total caseload at 1,569,328, and total number of recoveries at 1,533,147.

Around 13,240 samples were tested at 833 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. The mortality rate stands at 1.78 percent, while the recovery rate is 97.69 percent.

Of the eight deaths, six were men and two were women. The highest four deaths were recorded in Dhaka, two in Chittagong, and one each in Khulna and Sylhet.

Of the new 166 new cases, 103 in Dhaka, 29 in Chittagong, 10 in Rajshahi, eight in Khulna, six in Barisal, four in Rangpur, and three each in Mymensingh and Sylhet.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
