Gana Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain has called upon political parties to forge greater unity for waging movement to oust the current Awami League government.

“Currently the country’s people are deprived of their rights. People have no confidence in the incumbent government. They have occupied the power,” he said.

The Gana Forum chief made the statement while speaking at the inaugural function of the 4th ‘national delegates conference’ of the Ganasanghati Andolon at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Friday.

“The country’s people will have to be saved from this regime. They are now mentally prepared to wage movement against the government,” he said.

Dr Kamal said if the opposition political parties forge unity among people, they will take to street in a bid to get back their ownership of the state which has been ‘lost’ during the current regime. “Come, let’s take oath and build unity through discussion for the change (of power),” he asked the opposition parties.

The Gana Forum chief said the current government has no moral rights to run the country since it "usurped" power.

He said he is confident of the success in waging a movement as people are getting united. Speaking at the programme, Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury said the government has destroyed the country's election system.

He said there is no alternative to waging a strong street movement to ensure the fall of the Awami League government.

Zafrullah also thinks a national government needs to be formed to create a congenial and healthy atmosphere for holding a credible election.
