PANAJI: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee landed in Goa on Thursday as part of her first visit to the state since the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) announced that it is contesting the 2022 state assembly elections, reports Times of India.

During her three day official tour, Banerjee is expected to interact with the state TMC leadership, local community members and also interact with local politicians.

Banerjee was welcomed by national TMC vice president and former Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro and Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar among others.BJP karyakartas were also present at Goa International Airport where they waived black flags and raised slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ to protest against Banerjee’s arrival. The BJP karyakartas breached the cordon set up by Goa Police during the protest.

Coinciding with Banerjee’s visit, hoardings of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ have been put up across the tourist state, reminiscent of similar slogans being raised during the bitter West Bengal elections. The BJP had used the slogan to rile the West Bengal chief minister but the state BJP unit has denied its involvement.
