Spy ring trying to breach govt data identified

The Computer Incident Response Team of the government has identified a group which attempted to spy over the national network of the state-run bodies in order to breach data through malware.

“We have indentified the malware this month during a regular scanning by Cyber Threat Intelligence Unit,” Tarique M Barkatullah, Operations Director of Digital Security Agency (DSA), told the Daily Sun on Thursday.

The group named APT-C-61 tried to spy over the state-owned organisations including public, military and financial institutions, according to the Bangladesh e-Government Computer Incident Response Team (BGD e-Gov CIRT).

“The group used phishing and social engineering to enter the devices of important organisations to breach data,” read the statement.

The Computer Incident Response Team also asked the organisations to monitor the surfing of internet addresses in the last six months, change the password regularly and inform the DSA in case of any problem.
