Tenure of DMP commissioner extended by one year

The tenure of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has been extended by one year.

A circular signed by Md Oliur Rahman, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, was issued in this regard on Thursday.

“In accordance with the Public Service Act-2018’s Section-49, the post-retirement leave with its relevant facilities of BCS (police) cadre officer Md Shafiqul Islam has been suspended. His one-year contractual appointment would be effective from October 30 or the date of joining,” the circular says.

Md Shafiqul, who is also additional inspector general of police, took over as the 34th DMP commissioner on September 13 in 2019 replacing Md Asaduzzaman Mia.

On October 21, Public Security Division of Home Ministry issued a circular, stating that DMP Commissioner Shafiqul would go on retirement leave on October 30.

But finally, the government extended his tenure suspending the post-retirement leave.
