Sylhet secure first win in NCL

Sylhet Division earned their first victory in the ongoing 23rd National Cricket League after defeating Khulna Division by four wickets in their second round tier-1 match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground in Sylhet on Wednesday.

Needing 91 runs more on the final day, Sylhet clinched the victory and reached 205-6 after Jaker Ali made 41 runs while Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Shahanur Rahman scored unbeaten 18 and 15 runs respectively.

Earlier, Khulna scored 196 and 178 runs in their two innings while Sylhet made 172 runs in their first innings.

Meanwhile, the other tier-1 match between Dhaka Division and Rangpur Division ended in a draw at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Dhaka, which resumed an overnight score of 38-0, declared their second innings on 203-9 to set Rangpur a target of 277 runs. Rangpur made 75-3 in their second innings before both the teams agreed to share points.

Earlier, Rangpur made 321 runs in their first innings replying to Dhaka’s 394 runs.

In tier-2, Rajshahi Division and Dhaka Metropolis played a draw at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground in Cox’s Bazar.

Resuming an overnight score of 24-1, Rajshahi made 184-4 in their second innings after their skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto struck an unbeaten 103 off 199 balls while Junaid Siddique scored 50 runs.

Dhaka Metro earlier scored 339 runs in their first innings after bowling out Rajshahi for 252 runs.

Dhaka Metro’s Sharifullah, who picked up seven wickets with a hat-trick in the first innings and also scored a fifty in the match, was named man of the match for his outstanding all-round performances.

The third round matches are scheduled to get underway on October 31.
