Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday accused the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its acting chairman and fugitive convict Tarique Rahman, who is now staying in London, of the recent communal violence in different parts of the country.

“Attacks on puja mandaps during the Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of Hindus, were planned from London. Bangladesh Nationalist Party has plotted it by holding a series of meetings,” he said.

Hasan, also the information and broadcasting minister, said this during a meeting with local AL leaders in Circuit House in Rajshahi. Earlier, he visited substation of Bangladesh Television in Rajshahi. The information minister said those who are involved in politics of communalism incited the communal violence.

“Those who have instigated the incidents in Cumilla and spread the videos on Facebook will be unmasked. The government is pledged to find them and give exemplary punishment,” he said.
