Dhaka to host int’l tech summit in November

Bangladesh will host two international tech summits including 25th edition of World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) and Asocio Digital Summit in second week of November.

The summit duo will be held in parallel at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka from November 11 to 14, the organisers told a press conference on Tuesday.

WCIT is a signature event of the World Information Technology and Services Alliances (WITSA), a consortium of leading tech associations of the world.

The congress will have a total of 30 seminars, ministerial conferences and B2B sessions.

Besides, the regional forum Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) will also host the digital summit in parallel.

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak was the chief guest at the presser while ICT Division Senior Secretary NM ZeaulAlam was special guest at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka.

WITSA secretary general Jim Poisantjoined the session virtually.

Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) executive council Md Abdul Mannan and Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) president ShahidUlMunir and Asiatic EXP Innovations Lead Ahsan Ahmed Chowdhury were also present on the occasion.

ICT Department, BCC, BCS and Asiatic EXP will play the role of local organisers.

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), e-CAB, Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) and BACCO will be the organizing partners of the event.

State Minister Palak said the government has been working to take technology to the doorsteps of people through various initiatives.

“We want to use the power of technology as a tool to establish equality in human society," he said.

Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Advisor SajeebWazed Joy is scheduled to participate in the ministerial conference virtually as the key note speaker on the first day of the summit.

Besides, the “Digital Bangladesh Night”will be held on the same day wheresuccess stories of Bangladesh during last one decade will be projected.   On the second day, the summit will focus on policy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for technology sector marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation.

Asocio will host an Award Night to recognise the regional talents in technology on that day.

There will be held a special session on golden jubilee of independence of Bangladesh on November 13 evening where the WITSA will announce the “ICT Excellence Award” in recognition to tech innovations across the world.

On the concluding day, the WITSA will also celebrate 50 years of its founding anniversary.  Conference is open for all in-person or virtually with registration at www.wcit2021.com.bd.
