Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will take out a protest procession in the capital today to protest against the ‘government’s failure’ to uphold the communal harmony throughout the country.

The procession will start from in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan of the capital at 11:00 am and disperse in front of the Jatiya Press Club.

BNP senior leaders including party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will participate in the event. Leaders and activists of the BNP, its front and associate organisations have been asked to join the programme.

Recently, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that the recent communal incidents in different areas of the country are part of the ruling Awami League’s ‘evil design’.

“We think it’s not possible to incite riot and destroy communal harmony without the patronage of those in power,” he said.

Fakhrul also alleged that Awami League has started adopting various ‘evil tactics’ to prolong its stay in power. “They’re devising evil designs to overcome hurdle in the next general elections. These incidents (sectarian violence) are the proofs of such a plan.”
