Ashraful, Monir star in Barishal’s victory

Mohammad Ashraful and Monir Hossain starred with the ball once again in the second innings as Barishal Division registered a 78-run victory over Chattogram Division within two days of their second round tier-2 match of the ongoing 23rd National Cricket League in Chattogram on Monday.

Ashraful and Monir, who claimed five wickets each in the first innings, finished with 2-21 and 3-33 respectively to help their side bowl out Chattogram for 120 runs in their second innings.

Earlier, Monir made a crucial 30 off 26 balls before Barishal were bundled out for 139 runs in their second innings to set Chattogram a target of 199 runs. Chattogram’s off-spinner Nayeem Hasan and left-arm spinner Hasan Murad finished with 5-74 and 4-40 respectively.

Chattogram, earlier on day one, could make only 87 runs in their first innings replying to Barishal’s 146 runs.

Meanwhile, in the other tier-2 match in Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka Metro took a 31-run lead over Rajshahi Division after they made 283-7 at stumps of the second day’s play.

Shadman Islam struck 79 off 128 balls while Sharifullah, who earlier claimed a five-for in the match, made 59 runs in Metro’s first innings.

In tier-1, Rangpur Division finished the day at 96-3 replying to Dhaka Division’s first innings total of 394 runs in Sylhet.

Resuming an overnight score of 291-3, Dhaka added 103 runs more before getting all out in their first innings.

Overnight centurion Saif Hassan made 107 runs while Mahidul Islam Ankon scored 51 runs.

In the other tier-1 match in Sylhet, Khulna Division found them in a relatively better position after bowling Sylhet Division, which resumed the day on 30-3, all out for 172 runs in their first innings.

Al-Amin Hossain and Mehidy Hasan picked up three-wicket each for Khulna.

Khulna, which obtained a narrow 24-run first innings lead, finished the day at 46-3 to extend their lead to 70 runs at the end of the second day’s play.
