Bangladesh batsman Liton Das and Sri Lankan fast bowler Lahiru Kumara were fined by the International Cricket Council on Monday following their altercation that took place in their opening Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup.

Kumara was fined 25 percent of his match fee while Liton was handed 15 percent of his match fee with both receiving one demerit point each as well for breaching level 1 of the ICC code of conduct.

The incident occurred on Sunday during the fifth over of the contest when Kumara managed to dismiss Liton and later engaged in a war of words while walking up to the batter.

The pacer’s actions evoked an aggressive reaction from the batter as well and as a result, teammates and officials had to step in and stop the argument.

Bangladesh lost the game by five wickets to begin their Super 12 campaign on a losing note.
