6 ‘robbers’ arrested

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), in separate drives, arrested six suspected robbers in the capital on Saturday night.

The arrestees are identified as Md Zahirul Islam Zahir, 33, Md Jasim Uddin, 34, Rakib Hasan, 20, Md Jahidul Islam Shikder, 26, Khairul Bhuiyan, 20, and Md Nayon, 28.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of Legal and Media Wing of the elite force, confirmed the news at a press briefing on Sunday.

The force also seized Tk1,93,000, weapons used during the robbery and some other evidence from their possession, said the commander.

In primary interrogation, the arrested confessed their involvement with the robbery and Zahir was the masterminded in the incident. On October 12, the gang allegedly robbed a motorcycle showroom in the capital’s Shyamoli area.

Following the incident, showroom owner KM Abdul Khaleq filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.
