Three more accused make confession

Three more accused, who were arrested in connection with recent arson attack on Hindu mandap, houses and shops in Chowmuhani of Noakhali district, gave their confessional statements.

They are Ripon Ahmed, 19, Arafat Hossain, 24, and Ibrahim Khalil, 25.

Senior Judicial Magis-trate Nabanita Guha recorded the statements under the section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure on Saturday, according to Noakhali's Superintendent of Police Md Shahidul Islam.

Another suspect 19-year-old Abdur Rahim Sujon gave his confessional statement on Thursday.

Seeing video footage of the attacks, police identified Sujon and arrested him from Karimpur in the upazila on Wednesday.

Three others were also arrested on Saturday and they confessed to their crimes, said the SP.

Earlier on October 15, the last day of Durga Puja, the miscreants attacked, vandalised and set fire to the places of worship and homes of Hindus in Chowmuhani.

During the incident one died from cardiac arrest while police recovered the body of another person from a pond the next day.

Police arrested as many as 119 people in 10 cases filed over the attacks. Among them, 63 are named in the case and 59 are unnamed suspects.
