Nat’l swimming ends with five records

The three-day long Bangabandhu 30th National Swimming, Diving and Water polo Competition ended with five national records at the Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex in the capital on Sunday.

Bangladesh Navy swimmers Kajol Mia, Sonia Khatun, Omar Ali and Nasim Hossain made national records in their respective individual events while the Navy team comprising of Mamunur Rashid, Md Mahamudunnabi Nahid, Ariful Islam and Asif Reza made a record in the team event on the third and last day of the tournament. 

Kajol, who earlier made two national records in the men’s 200m and 400m individuals medleys, added another record in the day’s 400m freestyle. He recorded 4:17.35min to beat Bangladesh Army swimmer Faysal Ahmed’s 4:18.22min which was made in the recently-concluded Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games.

Omar recorded 2:24.93min to beat Army swimmer Jahangir Alam’s 13-year old record of 2:27.11min in the men’s 200 breaststroke, Sonia recorded 30:07sec to beat her own previous record 30:63sec in the women’s 50m butterfly and Nasim recorded 261.5 points to beat another Navy swimmer Anik Islam’s 230.45 points in 5m platform diving.

Navy team comprising Mamunur, Mahamudunnabi, Ariful and Asif recorded 3:58:93 in the men’s 4*100m medley relay. They beat Navy team comprising Mamunur, Ariful, Mahamudunnabi and Mahfizur’s record 3:59:14 hrs in 2019.   Bangladesh Navy clinched the highest 38 golds, 23 silvers, 8 bronze medals while Bangladesh Army secured 5 golds, 18 silvers, 19 bronze medals and BKSP won one silver, 12 bronze medals.
