Agriculture Minister Dr. Md Abdur Razzaque stressed on the need for modernising and commercialising farming sector to earn food sufficiency in the country.
The minister made the call while inaugurating a day-long Agricultural Entrepreneurs Conference-2021 at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council Auditorium (BARC) on Saturday.
The minister also informed that this year the country has exported agricultural products worth Tk 1 billion.
Prime Minister has already given us 2 acres of land in Purbachal to increase export of agricultural products, he stated.
He said that a separate cell will be set up in the Ministry of Agriculture to create and encourage new entrepreneurs in the country through providing overall support.
Bangladesh Bank Agricultural Loan Department General Manager Abdul Hakim, UCB Managing Director Mohammed Shawkat Jamil and Agricultural Research Council Executive Chairman Dr Sheikh Mohammad Bakhtiar were present as special guests at the inaugural session of the conference.
Former Agriculture Secretary Anwar Farooq presided over the conference.
Former Director General of Fisheries Department Dr Syed Arif Azad presided over the function in the second phase of the conference titled 'Krishak Sanglap'.
Former Director General of the Department of Agricultural Extension Dr MA Mueed and Vice President of BSAFE Foundation TIM Zahid Hossain, UCB EVP Javed Iqbal and Ispahani Agro Limited Director Fawzia Yasmeen were present as expert panelists.
Ekushey Medal winning economist and state minister for planning Dr Shamsul Alam was present as the chief guest in the closing session of the conference.
Raja Saching Prue Chowdhury of the Mong Circle of the Hill Tracts, UCB Additional Managing Director Arif Quadri, UCB Deputy Managing Director ATM Tahmiduzzaman, and Department of Agricultural Extension Director Dr Md Abu Sayeed Miah were present on the session.
The last session was presided over by Professor Nazrul Islam, an agronomist and researcher.
