Actor-director Kayes Chowdhury passes away

Renowned actor, director and playwright Kayes Chowdhury has passed away at the age of 64. He breathed his last at his residence in the capital’s Lalmatia area at 7:30pm on Thursday.

The artiste had been suffering from kidney-related complications.  

 “Kayes Chowdhury went to a city hospital on Thursday to receive his regular kidney dialysis and passed away after returning home”, informed Obhinoy Shilpi Sangha General Secretary and actor Ahsan Habib Nasim. 

The actor was laid to rest at the capital’s Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard following a Namaz-e-Janaza after the Jummah prayers at the Taqwa Masjid in Dhanmondi.   

Celebrities, including actors Rawnak Hasan, Rafiath Rashid Mithila, Siam Ahmed, and director Chayanika Chowdhury expressed condolences on social media over his untimely demise.

Kayes Chowdhury is popularly known for his works on television. He was the playwright and director of BTV’s popular drama series ‘Na’. He also directed the tele-fictions such as ‘Sopno Ebong Tumi’, ‘Tritiyo Noyon’, and others. Kayes Chowdhury acted notable plays are ‘Shopno Morubhumi’, ‘Goriber Kopal ey Shanti Ney’.

Apart from acting and directing, he was also involved in the teaching profession.
