Another youth has set his motorcycle on fire after a sergeant lodged a case against him on charges of violation of traffic rules.

The latest incident occurred in front of the office of BANBEIS (Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics) in the capital’s Nilkhet area around 2:30 pm on Thursday.

Police detained the youth Mohammad Ilias hailing from Kishoreganj and took him to Lalbagh Police Station for interrogation.

Mehedi Hasan, deputy commissioner (Lalbagh Traffic Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said that a Tk 4,000 fine was imposed on him several months back for ignoring traffic rules.

But he could not pay the fine, he said, adding that a sergeant in the Nilkhet area caught him and filed another case and imposed Tk 1,000 in fines. Enraged by the case, he set fire to his motorcycle.

Earlier on September 27, a youth named Shawkat Ali set his motorcycle ablaze after a traffic sergeant filed a case. The incident took place in Badda Link Road area.
