Lemos named Bangladesh’s new interim coach

A Bangladesh Football Federation official on Thursday said that they have decided to appoint Dhaka Abahani Limited coach Mario Lemos as their national team’s interim head coach for the upcoming four-nation invitational tournament in Sri Lanka.

“We have decided to appoint him (Lemos) for the four-nation tournament,” national team’s committee chairman Kazi Nabil Ahmed said.

Nabil, however, informed that the decision will be finalised in the national team’s committee’s next meeting, which is scheduled to be held at the BFF House on Saturday.

Lemos has been chosen for the job after Bashundhara Kings Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon, who was assigned in place of regular coach Jamie Day in the recently concluded SAFF Championship, disagreed to take another interim charge citing personal reasons.

The 35-year-old Portuguese coach Lemos is currently in South Korea and is expected to return to Bangladesh before the national team training camp starts on October 25.

Lemos is a familiar face in Bangladesh for over three years as he has been serving Dhaka Abahani as their head coach since December 2018 and also served Bangladesh national team as fitness coach for three months in early 2018.

Apart from Bangladesh, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Maldives will feature in the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy which will take place at Racecourse International Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka between November 8-17.
